Not in my twenties.  What does it mean, to not be in your twenties?  It means you always make your bed.  You’re never late. You eat right. You exercise every day. You never yell at your kids. Fuck no.  We’re human.  And as long as we’re human, we’ll falter and we’ll make mistakes.  It’s what we do with them that will separate us from our twenty something selves.

For me, being in my forties means, I have a much better sense of what I want.  Which also means I know what I don’t want. But I focus on the wants and don’t get stuck in the don’ts. Getting caught up in what you don’t want can sometimes be a slippery slope.  It can lead you to start thinking about all the times you didn’t get or have what you wanted.

It also means I have a voice and I’m not afraid to use it. Imagine you had gone through your entire life speaking your truth?  How many relationships would have ended sooner or lasted longer?  Would you have had more boundaries but less friends?

Now is the time to realize the power you’ve held the entire time and to bring it to the surface.  I’m not advising that you up and quit the job you’ve been miserable at but…maybe. I want you to know, to feel, to believe that your desires exist for a reason.  And that you have the power to carry them out. And the power to create the obstacles that get in your way.

You create the world you live in.  You’ve heard the phrase, you can’t control a situation but only your reaction to it. Life is full of reactions. Waking up every day is a reset.  Your mindset in the morning can set your entire day. You may not get to decide whether or not you have to work today but you can decide how you’re going to feel about it.  You decide how you interact with your co-workers or clients. And from experience I can tell you that I have a much better day when I’ve made the decision to.  Isn’t that an empowering thought?  That you can decide whether or not you’re going to have a good day?  So put a smile into it and have a great day.
